Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Objective: In this study, our goal is to investigate usage and advantage of prostate-specific antigen mass ratio in prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: The records of patients who underwent prostate biopsy were reviewed in Adnan Menderes University Medical School Urology Department. Body mass indexes and prostate-specific antigen mass ratios were calculated using height, weight, prostate-specific antigen, and prostate volumes. Subgroups were formed according to body mass index. Sensitivity and specificity of prostate-specific antigen mass ratio were calculated in all subjects and subgroups. The area of under the curve was compared with the prostate-specific antigen. PASW Statistics 18.0.0 and MedCalc Software computer programs were used for statistical analysis. Results: 171 subjects were included to study. 72% (n: 123) of the subjects were healthy and 28% (n: 48) were cancer. 45% (n: 77) of the subjects were overweight and 20% (n: 35) were obese. The prostate volume in the prostate cancer group was small; age, prostate-specific antigen, prostate-specific antigen mass ratio were found to be significantly higher. Among the benign and prostate cancer groups, the prostate-specific antigen was not significant but the prostate-specific antigen mass ratio was significantly higher in the normal weight, overweight and obese subgroups. When comparing the areas of under the curve in the ROC analysis, it was found that the prostate-specific antigen mass ratio was significantly superior to the prostate-specific antigen in all subjects and subgroups. The threshold value of prostate-specific antigen mass ratio was determined as 0,37 μg/mL. Conclusion: The prostate-specific antigen mass ratio was found to be superior to prostate-specific antigen testing in prostate cancer diagnosis. It would be useful to support these findings with larger, randomized prospective studies. Key Words: Prostate Cancer, Obesity, Prostate-specific antigen
