Abstract (EN)
Molar-incisior hypomineralization (MIH) is defined as a qualitative developmental disorder of systemic origin of one or more first molars of the enamel where the incisors are affected or unaffected. Same condition has been observed in second primary molars and called as hypomineralized second primary molars(HSPM). Although there is no definite conclusion about theirs etiology, multifactorial causes in which genetics is also effective are possible. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and etiology of MIH and HSPM in patients aged 8-12 years who live in Usak city. Of the 485 students examined for this purpose; 287 students who completed the 35-question questionnaire were included in the study. As a result of the analysis, 24.4% of the study group had different degrees of severity of MIH and 3.5%. The most common defect in both MIH and HSPM was white creamy demarcated opacities. While MIH and HSPM were not significantly related with tonsillitis, pharyngitis, asthma or pneumonıa; chicken pox seems to have an influence on defects. Also there was a significant correlation with gestational hypertension and MIH. Frequent diarrhea and frequent fever or febril diseases during childhood increased the incidence of MIH, but no statistically significant difference was found. Positive correlation between MIH and HSPM was found. MIH and HSPM has recently been considered as a major clinical problem in many European countries. The prevalence, severity and treatment needs of children should be monitored and followed. Families and children should be adequately informed about these defects and their consequences.
