Abstract (EN)
Membrane filtration and biomass adsorption provide indispensable opportunities in wastewater treatment in today's conditions where efficient usage of water resources in industrial area has gained importance. In particular, heavy metal impurities discharged into water environments by textile industry wastewaters cause irreversible damage to the environment and human health. In this thesis, the advantages of polymeric membrane filtration and Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast in heavy metal biosorption in the treatment and recovery of chromium (VI) heavy metal from wastewater were investigated. In filtration experiments; commercial membranes manufactured by GE Osmonics (USA) and Microdyn Nadir (Wiesbaden / Germany) were used. These membranes; NF (nanofiltration) membrane (GE CK) made of cellulose acetate polymer and UF (ultrafiltration) membrane (UH 004) made of PESH (Hydrophilic Polyethersulfone) polymer. The chromium (VI) solutions prepared in the laboratory were purified in the membrane filtration system which was designed as a laboratory scale in cross flow regime. In this experiment; the effect of membrane type, solution pH (5, 7, 10), filtration pressure and initial metal concentration (10 ppm, 250 ppm) on heavy metal removal efficiency (20 0C solution temperature) were investigated. The highest removal efficiency was determined as 99,0661% by membrane filtration treatment experiments. In this experiment, where nanofiltration membrane was used, the maximum removal efficiency was obtained at 4 bar filtration pressure (with solution pH=10) in the experiment with solution having an initial metal concentration of 250 ppm. Saccharomyces cerevisiae biomass was used in biosorption experiments. The effect of pH (5, 7,10), initial metal concentration (10 ppm, 250 ppm) and biosorption time on the removal efficiency of chromium (VI) from solution by yeast biosorption was investigated. Yeast was added to the prepared solutions at a rate of 8 g / lt, and subjected to biosorption at a stirring speed of 140 rpm for 180 minutes (20 ° C solution temperature). The highest removal efficiency was determined as 97,89%. This removal efficiency was obtained at biosorption time of 180 minutes (at pH= 5) with 10 ppm Cr+6 solution concentration.
