Abstract (EN)

İntroduction: Traumas are an important public health problem worldwide in terms of both morbidity and mortality. Head injuries can cause a wide variety of injuries, from mild head injuries to traumatic brain damage. Head injuries cause a significant number of deaths, temporary and permanent disability each year. Aim: In our study, we aimed to reveal the epidemiological data of the patients who were exposed to head trauma, to determine the clinical parameters that may indicate pathology in CT as a result of head trauma, and to reveal the duration of these patients in the emergency room and the final status of the patients. Method: The information of patients who applied to Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine Research Hospital Adult Emergency Service between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2019 due to head trauma and consulted to the neurosurgery department were retrospectively analysed using the hospital automation system. From the hospital automation system of the patients included in the study; age, gender, mechanism of trauma, amnesia, loss of consciousness, headache, vomiting, autoragy, alcohol, anticoagulant drug use, history of coagulopathy and neurosurgery, GCS, dizziness, disorientation in neurological examination, head examination findings, additional system trauma, CT results, duration of hospitalization, neurosurgery consultation requests, consultation results, and hospitalization records were reviewed. Findings: 822 patients were included in the study. 587 (71.4%) of the head trauma patients included in the study were male and 235 (28.6%) were female. The majority of cases were between 13 months and 18 years old. The most common trauma mechanism was traffic accident, the most common complaint headache, and the most common mild head trauma patient group determined according to the glaskow coma score. Result: All cases presenting with head trauma should be examined meticulously, and even in cases with GCS 15, consciousness monitoring and CT options should be used to the maximum. Hospital records of patients applying to emergency services should be filled in carefully and completely in terms of epidemiological data and judicial procedures.
