Cairo Mint in 18th century

After the Ottoman Empire conquered Egypt, besides establishing new institutions here, it also left some institutions in Egypt long-standing active. Responding to the money supply in the expanding Ottoman geography was quite difficult for Istanbul Mint. At this stage, the Mint of Cairo, which is far from the center, actively took part in the coin pressing process. In this study, the position of the Cairo Mint in the Ottoman finance during the 18th century was studied until the French invaded Egypt in 1798. The activity and organizational structure of Mint and it's connection points with the center of administration have been discussed. Coin pressing process has been evaluated in terms of mint personnel, technical processes and problems encountered. The main sources of the study are Ottoman Archive records.
