Computer based teaching in foreign language

Today knowing a foreign language is in every part of our lives and it is obligatory to learn another language. The most serious problem in teaching and learning process is teaching new words and their retention in the memory.Fill in the blanks ,translation, and reading comprehension questions relying heavily on vocabulary skills are the most challenging issues for students preparing for YDS, which is an exam for entering the language departments in the universities. However, vocabulary teaching is disregarded in both books and curriculum and ignored in the minds of teachers and students, too.Recently the frequent use of computers which has come into every aspect of our lives has also been in use in the education and language teaching providing more visual audial support leading to more enjoyable,practical and easier language learning environments.In this research, the use of computer in vocabulary teaching is tested and experimental results revealed the effectiveness of this method.The first chapter is about the history of computer and the history of computer use in education.The second chapter includes principals of foreign language teaching and foreign language teaching methods and approaches, vocabulary teaching which allocates a great place in language teaching, vocabulary learning strategies and their use in language teaching.In the third chapter, the benefits and limitations of computer aided language teaching and the use of computers in foreign language teaching are covered.The fourth chapter discusses about the aim, significance, model, sample and the population of the study, data collection tools, application methods, data analysis and statistical evaluation methods and technics of the data.In the fifth chapter, findings of the research, evaluation the the findings and demographic features of the participants are discussed.In the last chapter, on the basis of findings a result page was prepared and results were discussed with imlications providing future suggestions for further vocabulary related researches.
