Abstract (EN)
In this research, a feasible method was sought to reduce the difficulties experienced by foreign secondary school students in understanding the science course. When we look at foreign students' foreign language learning processes (Turkish for these students), it is seen that the most effective group in this learning is their classmates, that is, their peers. Based on this, it has become the subject of the research that these students receive help from their peers in science education, that is, they learn through the peer tutoring model. The study group of the research consists of nineteen foreign students studying at Arif Nihat Asya Secondary School in the central district of Elazığ in the 2023-2024 academic year and 19 local students who provide peer teaching assistance to these students. The students participating in the study were subjected to a valid and reliable achievement test and a valid and reliable science attitude scale. After the process of informing 19 local students about peer teaching was completed, a four-week peer teaching study was started. At the end of the study, possible changes in success and attitude were measured with the measurement tools mentioned above. In addition, foreign students were interviewed about the process, results, efficiency and necessity of the study by applying a semi-structured interview form at the end of the study. The achievement test, which was applied at the end of the month following the end of the study, was administered once again for retest (recall test). As a result of the study, it was seen that foreign students had the opportunity to learn the subjects one-on-one with the peer teaching model, learned at their own pace, and experienced the self-confidence of being cared for. The positive progress seen in both their attitudes and achievements supported these ideas. In addition, it was observed in the study that female students increased their success more than male students. It has been understood that the peer tutoring model is a useful method for foreign students to learn science.
