The effect of the use of TV series while teaching proverb and idiom in Turkish teaching as a foreign language (The sample of TV series "Aslan Ailem")

The aim of this study is to see the effect of using TV series as a visual and audio material in teaching Turkish to foreigners in teaching proverbs and idioms. In the first 4 episodes of the "Aslan Ailem" series, 20 idioms and 5 proverbs were tried to be taught. The model of the research is action research, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The universe of the study was 24 students at the level of B2, who were learning Turkish as a foreign language in 2018-2019 at TOMER at Uşak University. The application lasted 6 days. Preliminary information evaluation was done to the students about the idioms and proverbs to be taught before the applications. During the applications, proverb and idiom teaching studies were carried out with the support of activity. On the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th days, repeat study was carried out before moving on to teaching new idioms proverbs teaching. At the end of the applications, a post-test evaluation was made regarding the proverbs and idioms taught. When the preliminary information and post-test evaluation results were compared and according to the observations during the application, it was revealed that using TV series as visual and auditory material in the course environment was effective and gave positive results in the proverbial and idiom teaching.
