Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of 5E teaching model, which is prepared appropriate to constructivist approach, and traditional teaching approaches on the material cycle subject which takes place in the curriculum of 10th. classes biology lesson.This research was applied to 3 different 10th. class students in the first term of 2008-2009 academic year. Total number of the students was determined as 50. After implementing pre-test, students were divided into two groups as experiment and control groups. Formed groups were instructed in material cycle subject for 4 weeks. While the subject was given with tradional methods to control groups, experiment groups were given the subject with 5E teaching model which was prepared suited to constructivist approach. After teaching, the test was implemented again to both groups.Datas, which were obtained as a result of the study, were evaluated by using SPSS programme. The results showed that the 5E model is more effective than traditional teaching on learning the material cycle.Key words: Material Cycle, Constructivist Approach, 5E Learning Cycle
