Abstract (EN)
In this study titled "Historicism and Dialectical Image in the New German Expressionism", a reading of "historical image" was made based on the "problem of history" that Walter Benjamin mentioned extensively in his dissertations on the Concept of History. Studying the "cultural history" of the nineteenth century, Benjamin explains the new "concept of history" through dialectical thinking. The concept of history, which he explains in his theses, manifests itself in the form of dialectical images, surrounded by images and allegories. The purpose of Benjamin, who presents the history /ruins of the recent past to us as the remains of a dream world, is to read history in the form of images. Therefore, the concept of dialectical imagery pointed out by Benjamin in his thesis work is considered in the context of historicism through the images created by the New German Expressionist artists. These artists are people who, together with Benjamin, have breathed the same historical atmosphere, faced their recent history, but also reckoned with it. Key Words: Benjamin, Dialectical Image, History, Historicism, Expressionism
