New age teachers'tendencies to become administrators

Determining the tendecies to become a manager and the perception of management qualities of manager canditates is important for identifying the future management personnel and for helping to take precautions. After serving a period of time as a teacher, it is legally possible to uprank as an administrator. Whereas some of the teachers want to take an administrative status, some do not wish to become an administrator. Elementary, Secondary and High Schools located in the districts of Başakşehir in the province of Istanbul are taken as sample for the research during the academic year of 2012-2013. A questionnaire for school administrators has been developed under the supervision of Professor Dr. Semra ÜNALThere are 38 public schools and 15 private schools in the area within this research. In total, 885 teachers, 645 of them from public schools and 240 of them from private schools, have been reached and 885 questionnaires were distributed to the teachers. While 694 of the questionnaires were returned, only the 51 of them were not returned. All the returned questionnaires, 431 from official state schools and 212 from private schools, in total 643 have been evaluated. The first part of the study includes the state of the problem that is the basis of the research, the problem statement, sub-problems, hypothesis, assumptions, limitations and definitions. Management concept, characteristics of managers, education management, types of communication in education, management processes, school administration, instructional leadership, and domestic and foreign research in the literature appear in the second part. Research method is discussed in the third section. The environment and the sample used in this study, work done for data collection, data processing and statistical techniques used in the research are explained in this chapter. The fourth part comprises the frequencies of tables obtained from the results of the survey that was applied to primary,secondary and high school teachers, and unrelated sample test, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) and Post-Hoc Scheffe test.Consists of the conclusions based on the findings of the study and the results of the sub-problems in the fifth chapter.In the sixth chapter discussions about the results are given.In the seventh part suggestions are presented by making use of the findings and results mentioned in chapter six. Some of the results obtained after statistical analysis of the results of the study are as follows: *It was found that; compared to other age groups, new generation teachers between the ages of 21-25 have more self-confidence and courage in terms of competence for being manager. *It was discovered that older teachers prefer being manager because of its economic advantages and that as teachers get older, their economic anxieties increase much more. *It was found out that the excess of working hours in management is not appealing regarding preferring administration. *It was seen that difficulties faced in teaching have an influence on the decision of being manager. *The fact that successful managers do not obtain any rewards such as promotion or additional payment was found to cause loss of interest in management. *It was concluded that new generation teachers have a more idealistic and authoritative management attitude. *It was observed that female teachers are more teaching-oriented whereas male teachers give more importance to status and career. *It was noticed that occupational burnout syndrome is influential in the preference for administration. *The fact that central examination system is used as the criteria for manager appointments was found to increase interest in management and provide equal opportunity. Present study aims to investigate new age teachers? tendencies to become administrators and their expectation of administrative status.
