Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was examine the relationship between attention deficit and hyperactivity characteristics, early maladaptive schemas and parenting styles in adults. For this purpose, it is a research in descriptive design and designed according to the relational scanning model. The sample group of this study consists of 256 people aged between 18- 72.Demographic Information Form, Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self- Report Scale (ASRS), Young Schema Scale (YSS) Short Form and Young Parenting Scale were administered to the participants. IBM SPSS Statistics 24 package programs were used in the analysis of the data in the study. Independent Samples t-test was used to determine the differentiation between groups. Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis techniques were applied in the evaluation of the relations between the variables. According to the analysis results of this study, where 179 (69.9 %) of the participants were female and 77 (30.1%) were male, it was seen that there was no significant difference in ADHD variables in adult individuals according to their gender. According to the research findings, the relationships between parenting styles that cause early maladaptive schemas and ADHD levels in adults has been revealed. When the research findings are evaluated in general, all early maladaptive schemas and parenting styles that cause early maladaptive schemas are associated with the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale Total Score and sub-dimensions. In addition, while Social Isolation/ Insecurity schema domain predicts ADHD in general; In addition, the Hyperactivity sub-dimension was predicted by the Emotion Suppression schema, and the Attention Deficit sub-dimension was predicted by the Social Isolation/ Insecurity schemas. In the light of this information obtained, the relationship between ADHD characteristics in adulthood, early maladaptive schemas and parenting styles will be revealed more clearly in future studies on this subject.
