Relationship between the acceptation and the hopelessness of the mothers of children with menthal disability

The general purpose of this research is to compare the effects of various variables on acceptance issue of mothers with disabled children and their hopelessness levels. With this research, in line with Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ), it is aimed to determine acceptance and rejection behaviours of mothers with children having mental disability through non-warmth, aggression-hostility, neglect-indifference, rejection-undifferentiated sub-dimensions and in line with Beck Hopelessness Scale, it is aimed to determine their hopelessness levels through feelings about the future, loss of motivation and hope sub-dimensions. This research group consists of 243 mothers having mentally retarded children attending either a private or official institution which is in Istanbul , Sancaktepe province in years 2011-2012.In the findings of this research, it is determined that the perception related to the acceptance or rejection of the children of the mothers, having mentally retarded children, doesn't change according to the age and gender of the child, number of children in the family, income state of the family but it changes according to the age of the mother , educational background of the mother, having the support education and their satisfaction from the support education.It ıs determined that as the mothers get older, their education level gets higher, they have the support education and they satisfy from that support education; they accept their mentally retarded children more. Whereas the level of the hopelessness of the mothers having mentally-retarded children doesn?t change so much in terms of age and gender of the child, the child's 2.disability and the income of the family; meaningful differences have been noticed in terms of the variables which are, the level of the education and the mental disability of the mother, the number of the children in the family, mother's age, having the support education and being pleased with this education. As the education level of the mothers having mentally retarded children gets higher, the disability level of the children gets lower, the number of the children decreases, the age of the mothers gets higher and they have the support education and the satisfaction they get from this support education increases, ıt`s noticed that they look ahead more hopefully.
