Abstract (EN)
From Kasımpaşa to Kağıthane, districts such as Hasköy, Piri Paşa and Sütlüce developed, and the social groups and religious communities that lived in this area shaped the urban landscape and architectural commissions of the time. The purpose of this study is to understand the historical and cultural context of the northern shore of the Golden Horn during the 17th century and to determine how the urban and social landscape developed. This study is based on the examination of visual material such as historical maps and engravings of Istanbul, and theaccounts of 17th century travelers, as well as Ottoman documents. The aim of this study is to create an understanding of how these various districts were related to each other both topographically and socially, how Istanbul developed along the northern shore of the Golden Horn, and how social developments of the time were reflected in the urban landscape.
