Education activities between the years of 1930-1960 in Elazığ

In all socities, the aim of education is to transmit the cultural background to new generations. The beginning date of history of human beings was also the beginning date of education. Human beings attach importance to their backgrounds they have formed with experiences in terms of protection and maintenance of their generations In the formation of education conception of societies, factors such as geography they live, environment conditions, relations among them and the most important of all their beliefs have had influence. With the invetion of writing this process became systematic Likewise knowledge gained with experiences caused corporate structures to come out and the transmission of culture and knowledge was carried out thanks to those corporate structures. Although the development process has differed from society to society, their cultural differences and education conceptions have shown resemblances as the interaction among them increases Each society educate people to raise human type it needs and it structures their institutions according to this aim. Turkish society has followed this process since its appearance in history and its education conception has shown differences under the effect its geography and beliefs. While education of Alp type human was given, after the acceptance of Islam Ghazi-Dervish type human was raised. The corporate education institutions which also affected education conceptation of Islam deeply also appeared in that era. Turkish States, founded in the historical process, developed those corporate structures and especially in the eras of Seljuk and Ottoman education institutions ahead of their time came out. However, onwards the last two centuries of Ottoman Empire those institutions started to spoil and degenerate. With the foundation of Turkish Republic, the process of westernization and modernisation was applied to education conception and institutions and great changes were experienced. Onwards the first years of foundation of Republic, a number of changes were actualised. Rooted changes such as the law on unification of education and alphabet reform were made. The era of 1930-1960 which is the subject of work and the reflections of educational campaign in Elazığ which was initiated during that era throughout the country were examined. In this work the place and importance of Harput in education history which has been the center of many cultures and civilizations, education activities in Harput and important education institutions there were emphasized and then education activities and institutions throughout Elazığ between the years of 1930 and 1960 were examined.
