Levels of depression, anxiety and self-esteem among women between ages 20-40, who have received psychological treatment or not

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the levels of depression, anxiety and self-esteem of women in the 20-40 age range who applied a psychology clinic of a medical center in Istanbul, regardless of visiting cause, and randomly selected women who never resort to psychologist aimed to compare with each other. Among 144 women who agreed to participate in the study, 100 of them actually finished the survey and these responses used as data set for the study. Data has been collected by using Beck Depression Study, Beck Anxiety Scale, Rosenberg Self Respect Scale and Personal Information Form which is created by researcher. According to our study, the women who admitted to a psychologist have higher levels of depression and higher levels of anxiety than the women who did not admitted to a psychologist the women who have less than 2 close friends have higher levels of depression than the ones who have more than 2 close friends; the women in the age range of 30-40 have lower level of self-respect than the women in the age range of 20-29; levels of the ability of participating in discussions and the levels of psychic isolation in women with low-income are higher than women with high-income and all these results are statisticaly significant. For the women with high educational level; the relationship between self-esteem and "continuity of the self-concept, trusting people, depressive mood, being imaginative, psychosomatic symptoms, interpersonal feelings of threat in the relationships, parent involvement and psychic isolation" were statistically significant. Even though Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale total scores and level of income do not have any statistically significant relationship; there were a statisticaly significant relationship between level of income and depressive affect, which is a subscale of the self-esteem scale.
