Abstract (EN)

From the time when humanity was primitive to the transition to modern life, the wealth of the countries was measured by natural conditions. Financial wealth after the invention of money has led both countries and people to turn to the financial field. In this context, the increase in transactions made day by day necessitated the formation of some financial institutions. Banks, which are one of these financial institutions, have gradually increased their effectiveness and become a fundamental factor of the financial system. The increasing transaction volume and the deepening of the markets enabled banks to take up almost the entire financial system. The importance of banks with the financial system has increased the competition among banks. As the factors such as profitability between them, providing new products and being effective in the market increased, it was inevitable for banks to turn to these areas. Banks that want to get a better position in the market have started to investigate the factors that increase their profitability. Various researches have been conducted on this subject and the determinants affecting the performance of banks have been tried to be analyzed. The purpose of the study is to determine the factors affecting the performances of 24 banks that continued their activities between 2009-2018 after the 2008 global financial crisis. In the study, dependent variables were used: capital adequacy ratio, liquidity and credit risk, lending level, bank size, concentration and deposit rate variables. According to the findings obtained in the study in which panel data regression method was used, it was observed that the variables such as capital ratio, liquidity risk, level of lending, bank size, capital ratio and concentration showed statistically significant results in explaining the change in performance. In addition, another important result reached in the study is that the credit risk variable does not cause any statistically significant change on all performance criteria. More specifically, changes in banks' non-performing loans do not significantly increase or decrease the performance rates. Keywords: Bank performance, 2008 Global Finance Crisis.
