Abstract (EN)

This study examines how digital technologies have transformed theater art in the 21st century from a multidimensional perspective. The relationship that theater has established with technological developments throughout history shows that it has undergone a continuous evolution in terms of form and content since primitive times. This transformation, which has continued from ritual narratives told around the fire to stage machinery and electric lighting, has reached a new breaking point with the digital age. Technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), blockchain, NFT and Metaverse are redefining theater's concepts of space, body, audience and narrative. First, these technologies are introduced conceptually in the study; then, current digital theater examples from around the world are given and the effects of these tools on staging practices are analyzed. In addition, it is discussed that digitalization is not only an aesthetic innovation; it also creates multi-layered problems such as copyright, property, accessibility and digital inequality. In this context, digital theater practices are not only a technical update, but also a cultural and artistic paradigm shift that brings fundamental questions about the nature of theater back to the agenda.
