Abstract (EN)
Since the first quarter of the 19th century, censuses have provided valuable information to understand the military potential and demographic characteristics of the Ottoman Empire. These censuses seem to have contributed to the reform of the provincial administrative structure in an organized manner. In the 19th century, it is known that Amasya was part of the Sivas province. The Amasya Central Reâyâ Population Book, which is the subject of this study, is numbered with the code NFS d. and the number 2158 in the Ottoman Archive at the Presidency of State Archives. It is a book consisting of 68 pages in 20x46 size. This book contains information about the names, family names, age groups and occupations of non-Muslims in the central district of Amasya and their demographic, social and economic status. In the light of the information contained in this study, the people registered in 35 neighborhoods where non-Muslims lived in the central district of Amasya were examined and their information was determined and it was aimed to contribute to the socio-economic history of the region. The thesis consists of 3 main chapters. In the first chapter, censuses in the Ottoman Empire and sources that provide information about the Ottoman population are mentioned.
