Abstract (EN)

A significant number of radical changes in Ottoman institutions took place during the reign of Mahmut II. One of them was the population censuses. In this period, especially in the first censuses conducted with the aim of determining the military power of the Ottoman society, the male population was recorded in detail while the female population was not taken into account. Nevertheless, the census books of the 19th century contain important demographic data on this period of the Ottoman Empire. One of the other radical innovations in the Tanzimat period was related to the provincial administration. In 1842, provinces were divided into sanjaks and sanjaks were divided into districts, and based on this arrangement, population censuses were conducted in the Ottoman provinces and recorded in ledgers. According to this arrangement, in 1845-1846, Hacıköy was a district under the sanjak of Amasya in Sivas province. The Hacıköy District Muslim Population Register Book, which is the subject of our study, is located in the Presidency of the State Archives with the code NFS.d and sequence number 2198. It consists of 116 pages and is 19x48 in size. It contains population information for 4 neighborhoods and 6 villages. The book provides information about the demographic, social and economic structure of the period. There are many topics such as the names of the people residing in the district, family names, age group, military service status, population movements and the distribution of occupations by branches. In the light of this information, it is aimed to contribute to the social and economic situation of the region by determining the information recorded in 4 neighborhoods and 6 villages of Hacıköy district
