Abstract (EN)
Population has always been the main element of societies and states. In the historical process, the power of states is directly proportional to how much manpower they have. Even today, this element maintains its importance. In this context, states want to know how much population they have and determine it by conducting censuses from time to time. The Ottoman Empire is a state that established a great empire that dominated different continents. Determining the population and therefore the manpower has been a very important place for the Ottoman Empire. By determining the human power through population censuses, plans could be made for areas such as defense, agriculture and economy. With Mahmud II, population censuses began to be conducted in the modern sense and ledgers were started to be created in this field. In the Muslim population book of Sivas province Amasya sanjak Havza kaza with the book number 2212, which is the subject of our study, 42 villages and 7 farmhouses were identified, and in addition to the male population information, it contains information about their educational status, military service information, age, migration status and physical characteristics. In this respect, it is thought that it will contribute to the studies to be carried out for the region and the history of the region
