Analyzing some basic values in illustrated story books for 3-6 years old children

This study was carried out to determine what basic humanistic values there were and how range found these values in illustrated story books for 3-6 years children by wrote Turkish writers to get values. The first part of the study include the study?s aim, importance, limitations, and value notion and also in the second part are presented informations about values and child books. The content analysis was used in the research. The illustirated child books to get values by Turkish writers constitute general points and by the means of criterion sampling chosen 135 books among those works constitute examples. The values in works by coding, were assigned to categories and sup-categories for text parts and they were only assigned categories for illustrate parts. According to findings it is seen that there are values of love, friendship, bless, kindness, benevolance, cleanliness, respect, justice, savingness, aesthetic, empathy, tolerance, honesty, strenuousness, self confidence, responsibility, dare, leadership and peace at the illustrated books to get values by Turkish writers. Totally sentences at the books? text parts include values at the rate of %28.69. And also at the illustrate parts, all pictures involve the values at the rate of %53.04. It seen that values of love, sharing, friendship, bless and kindness come firstly; and the values of dare, leadership and peace come the lastly at the text parts. Besides, it seen that the illustrate parts of the books include widely values of sharing, love, bless, friendship and belevolance; and also the values of respect, cleanliness, kindness, empathy and strenuousness mediocre. When love comes the first the books? text parts, sharing is the first at the books? illustrate parts. The values of peace comes the last at the both parts. According to the results of the study, it can be said that differant values like dare, leadership, self confidence, responsibility and peace are handled besides mostly found values as love, sharing, friendship, bless will contribute to increase children?s personality development and self esteem.
