The effect of using out of school learning environments in the teaching field of production, distribution and consumption of the 5th grade social studies course on student success

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the use of out-of-school learning environments in the teaching of the production, distribution and consumption learning area of the Primary School 5th Grade Social Studies course on the academic achievement of the students. In this study, quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was applied. The data of the research were applied and collected as the 'Production, Distribution and Consumption' learning domain achievement test, pre-test and post-test. The experimental study of the research was carried out in the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The study group of this study consisted of 32 students studying in the 5th grade in a public school. In the study, machines and products were observed in the experimental group by going to three factories determined in Dazkırı district of Afyonkarahisar during the field trip out of school. In the control group, teaching was carried out in the classroom environment in accordance with the current curriculum. When the achievement pretest scores of the experimental and control groups were controlled, ANCOVA analysis was performed to determine the difference in the posttest average scores. According to the results of the analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference between the corrected achievement test average scores calculated by controlling the pre-test scores of the students according to the group they were in, and it was determined that the academic achievement of the students in the experimental group, in which out-of-school learning environments were used, was higher than the students in the control group, in which the direct instruction method was applied.
