Abstract (EN)
In this survey, what is aimed is to investigate the problem solving skills of the 6-age preschool students as compiratively. The participants of the survey are 60 students (30 female and 30 male) who attend the preschools in the Gümüsova district of Duzce. The students are asked to work on two puzzles; one comparised of 30 pieces and the other 48. Students? behaviors on how to solve problems were recorded on camera and observation form during their work on puzzles. Evaluation is made in three paces. Based on the data obtained from the observation, the problem solving pace of female and male students is examined. The examination revealed that both male and female students are eager to solve problems. When compared, the results were similar on defining the problem, working on the problem and evaluation of the solution paces. On the evaluation of students? knowledge strategy and choice, it is found out that the students basically make use of 9 strategies while working on puzzles, 4 used by both female and male students and 5 used by either male or female students. In this survey the success in problem solving is studied according to the correct pieces that the students used while making the puzzles. According to the t-test, the number of correct pieces that the students used in puzzles A and B shows that gender makes no significant difference (p<.05) statistically. Similarly, when looked at the t-test results of students? preferences on the placement of middle or edge pieces and small or big pieces and the number of pieces no significant difference was found. 6 categories were defined in the evaluation of oral language characteristics in problem solving skills and sentences were evaluated in these categories. This data reveals that male students talk much more than female students during problem solving. These findings show that gender does not play a significant role in students? success of problem solving
