Abstract (EN)
This study is aimed to determine whether parental attitudes towards middle-school students give cause for perfectionist personality traits and exam anxiety. Parental attitude plays an important role for an individual to form a healthy personality, academic development and development of social and adaptive skills, and consequently it is one of the most significant subjects of the Family Counseling field. In Turkey and foreign countries, there are so many studies related to parental attitude. With the increase of the place and importance of exams in our education system exercised in recent years, unhealthy parental attitudes have put pressure on students, and this has increased the prevalence of perfectionist personality traits and exam anxiety in students. Based on this study, it is thought that to what extent parental attitudes affect perfectionist personality traits and exam anxiety differs according to students' grade level, gender, perceived academic success level, mother-father relationship and socio-economic class. The study was realized on 150 middle-school students from 7th and 8th grade. In order to evaluate the data, Exam Anxiety Inventory (Öner, 1990), Parental Attitude Scale (Kuzgun and Eldeleklioğlu, 2005), and Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (Özbay and Taşdemir, 2003) are used. Data related to demographic variables are acquired by using "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher. In the study, whether parental attitude and perfectionism affect exam anxiety of students is determined with the linear regression analysis technique, and consequently some important conclusions are drawn about the effects of parental attitudes on exam anxiety and perfectionist personality traits Keywords: Exam anxiety, perfectionism, parental attitudes
