Evaluation of 7th grade social studies course subjects and acquisitions in terms of historical thinking skills

In the study, it was aimed to evaluate the 7th grade social studies textbook topics, curriculum outcomes and assessment and evaluation questions in the study fascicles according to historical thinking skills. Historical thinking skills are critically important for students to be able to perceive and interpret history in every aspect. Therefore, it is essential that the textbooks and study fascicles, which are the easiest resources available to students, are prepared according to this importance level, and the curriculum is designed in a way that enables students to activate their historical thinking skills. According to the determined purpose the textbook of MEB publications (MEB, 2020), the 2018 social studies curriculum (MEB, 2018a) and the study fascicules prepared by the General Directorate of Assessment and Examination Services (ODSGM, 2020) has been determined are documented. These documents have been analyzed in line with the criteria established by the National Center for History in the Schools (NCHS, 1996). Based on the findings, it is seen that historical thinking skills of the students are in the foreground, which improves chronological thinking skills; historical understanding, historical analysis and interpretation, analysis and decision-making skills for historical problems can be effective in terms of students' historical thinking; It was determined that historical research skills were ignored.
