Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the values in the 8th Grade Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism textbook and Nutuk and to evaluate the values in these two sources in terms of teachers' opinions. In this study, content analysis and interview techniques from qualitative research methods were used. As a data collection tool, Atatürk's Speech (Nutuk), the 8 th grade Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism textbook of Nev Publishing, which was taught in the 2019-2020 academic year, and the opinions of teachers were used. The study group of the research consisted of 10 Social Studies Teachers working in public and private secondary schools in different provinces of Turkey. A semi-structured interview form was used to collect the research data. Descriptive analysis and inductive content analy-sis techniques were used to analyze the data. In the research, 52 pages of raw data were ob-tained from the textbook, 337 from the Nutuk, and 25 pages from the answers given by the teachers to the interview questions. The data were transferred to the word document and in the light of these data, the opinions of the teachers about the values in the 8th Grade Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism textbook and Nutuk and the values in these two sources were determined. As a result, 982 values were determined in Nutuk and 573 values in the textbook. Values that take the first two places in both sources are patriotism and indepen-dence. The teachers who participated in the study could not match the achievements and the values that should be given, they were deficient in value concepts, they tended to exam-oriented education, although they wanted to turn to the values education, both the exam and the lack of course hours did not allow this, and the most used method in the lesson was the lecture method, which is one of the traditional methods. It has been concluded that there are very few teachers who use different methods. Considering that it contains the achieve-ments of 8th grade Revolution History and Kemalism to a large extent and that it is rich in values, it has been concluded that Nutuk should be utilized as much as possible.
