Abstract (EN)

Detailed Tahrir registers are important records that shed light on the historical aspects of the Ottoman Empire. These documents provide very useful information, especially in local history studies. Tahrir registers contain information about the villages, hamlets, population structure, taxpayers, etc. of a place. This thesis examines the personal and place names of the Payas (Üzeyr) Sanjak, which existed during the Ottoman Empire between AH981-AD1573. The thesis examines the role of place names and personal names in detail in order to understand the historical, cultural and geographical context of the region. It is understood that the data in the Tahrir registers are important sources about the economic administrative and religious structures of the provinces or sanjaks they belong to, and they also contain raw and important information in the determination and evaluation of personal and place names used in history. The historical development of Payas before and after the Ottoman period, its administrative structure, economy and cultural texture are examined, and the changes and transformations the region has gone through are analyzed. In addition, the origins, meanings and historical importance of personal and place names in this region are emphasized. The researchis carried out through documents, archive records, geographical data and linguistic analysis. This study aims to deeply understand the social, cultural and demographicstructure of Payas (Üzeyr) Sanjak by transcribing the documents in the tahrir register kept in H981-M1573 and to contribute to the historical identity and heritage of theregion. In addition, the sub-districts of Üzeyr Sanjak and the settlements connected to these sub-districts were examined. In addition, the sources of income, populationand lifestyles of the people were tried to be explained in the conclusion and evaluation section. As a result of the results of the thesis, the historical and cultural heritage of the region is to be preserved and to ensure its transfer to future generations.
