Abstract (EN)
One of the issues most impacted by globalization is migration. The phenomenon of migration has been ongoing throughout the history and it is such a sensitive issue that encompasses certain problems and responsibilities. Analysing migration within securitization approach developed by the Copenhagen School requires focus on more different inputs. In this view, wide-ranging policies have been pursued by European Union Member States from past to present regarding management of migration. While migration was a phenomenon to be promoted during 1960s, it has become a problem which threatens security and needs to be controlled as of mid-1970s, and from earlier periods for some of the Member States. Having evolved from sending countries to receiving countries, EU Member States have started to perceive migration as being isolated from relocation and as a threatening issue. Within this scope, migration has become a problem that needs to be settled mutually between sending and receiving regions and EU migration policies have transformed in time accordingly. Migration is a security problem for the EU and needs to be managed. Especially conflicts arising in the Middle East during the last years and the Syria crisis have triggered migration and caused millions of people to leave their homelands. This unusual situation has inclined unusual measures. The central issue for the countries facing the reality of migration is not regular migrations but rather controlling and managing irregular migrations which usually occur illegally.
