Emergency health services ambulance organization: Turkey Trabzon province helicopter ambulance sample

Although pre-hospital emergency health care is a new concept for developed countries, it is also an important concept for our country. Today, alternative airborne intervention systems other than highways have an important place in pre-hospital emergency health services and the use of various types of air ambulances is rapidly spreading all over the world. Ambulance helicopters are of vital importance in transporting the cases to the hospital as quickly as possible due to the existence of survival situation and the limited possibilities to do at the scene. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the helicopter ambulance services, which is considered an important application, in terms of our region. Our study was planned retrospectively, and the patients who were transferred between hospitals by helicopter ambulance between 2016 and 2020 in Trabzon province and the cases taken from the scene were included. Of the total n=1086 patients, 58.9% were male and 40.6% were female. According to the 5-year data between 2016 and 2020, which is the subject of the research, patient data, transplant information, transplant eligibility and demographic data of patients were obtained from the relevant records and these data were compared statistically. In terms of emergency health services, helicopter ambulance has an important role in the transfer of patients in critical condition, and the transfer of patients in this group to health centers is provided faster and more effectively. However, there is limited information in the literature on cost-effectiveness and benefit/loss ratios in the use of helicopter ambulances. For this reason, it would be appropriate to decide on the transfer process by air ambulance by making a good distinction in the transportation of patients who are thought to be safer and more suitable for transportation. With this work; By evaluating the ambulance organization in Trabzon Emergency Health Services and the helicopter ambulance service process between 2016 and 2020, it is aimed to reveal its importance and contribution to the region.
