The effect of simulation-based training regarding data collection on forensic cases to knowledge and skills of emergency department nurses

Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental research design one group pre-post test, in order to determine the effect of simulation-based training regarding data collection on forensic cases to knowledge and skills of emergency department nurses'. The research was carried out between 31 May-26 June 2021 with 20 volunteer nurse who work at Emergency Department of Halil Sıvgın Cubuk State Hospital. Data were collected using the "Descriptive Characteristics Form", "Knowledge Test Regarding Data Collection on Forensic Cases" and "Skill Check List for Regarding Data Collection on Forensic Cases". Numeration, percentage, average, standard deviation, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilk, Repeated Measures, Paired Sample Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Pearson and Spearman's Correlation Analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. Ethics Committee approval, institutional approval and the written approval of the nurses were obtained in the research. In the research, firstly theoretical training and then simulation-based skill training was done to the nurses. Before the theoretical training (Pre test), after (Post test-1) and after the simulation-based skill training (Post test-2) knowledge test was applied and simulation-based skill assessment was carried out two weeks later for evaluate the skills of nurses. The findings show that nurses' post test-1 and post test-2 knowledge score averages were significantly higher than their pre test knowledge mean scores (p<0.05), while there was no significant difference between mean scores of post test-1 and post test-2 (p>0.05). In addition, it was found that the simulation-based skill assessment score averages of nurses were significantly higher than the simulation-based skill training score averages (p<0.05), and there was a positive significant relationship between knowledge and skill score averages (p<0.05). In conclusion, it has been determined that simulation-based training given regarding data collection on forensic cases has a positive effect on knowledge and skills of emergency department nurses'. In this context, it is recommended to collect data in forensic cases in emergency department in line with procedures and to provide simulation-based training to nurses in in-service training.
