The research of the possibilities of the use of geographical information systems and global positioning systems on the mining activities in the Afşin-Elbistan coal field

Together with the developing technology many fields of application of the integration of CBS/GPS have emerged. By creating mine information system containing the activities of mining in this study the real-time monitoring of the mining activities and the product movements and making decision by carrying out the necessary inquiries and the analysis have been intended.For this purpose firstly the table of the databases has been prepared by analyzing the geological and probing data of the Afşin-Elbistan lignite basin and then they are combined under the CBS roof by creating the digital thematic maps used in the activities of mining. For the reason that, the graphical and the non-graphical data and the logical and the topological relations between these data; the "Production Tracking and Planning Information System" software has been developed with the possibility of processing as integrated and therefore carrying out the analysis based on the position.Within this frame, by placing a GPS receiver on the excavators, the tracking of them over the digital maps have been enabled, the tracking and the storage of the stock accounts as database of the quality data such as the production amount, calorific value, moisture%, ash% simultaneously with the lignite production have been provided. In addition, thanks to these databases and the developed information system presenting significance in respect of blending and other processes, it has been put forward that the maps of field use can be prepared or it will be possible to determine the distribution of the reserve-quality in an area defined from the screen.
