Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to create a resource that will contribute to the development of reading skills of B1 level students learning Turkish as a foreign language. In Turkish language teaching as a foreign language, there is a lack of texts that contribute to the development of reading skills adapted to the appropriate levels. The type and language structure of the texts used in reading activities vary according to the students' language levels. Therefore, in order to obtain a text suitable for the students' language level, it is necessary either to produce a text appropriate to the situation or to simplify an original (authentic) text to the students' level (Bölükbaş, 2015). The universe of this study, which aims to create a suitable resource for students learning Turkish as a foreign language at the B1 level, consists of Ahmet Ümit's fairy tales, and the sample consists of 6 tales (Fairy Tale Inside a Fairy Tale, What the Hatter Told, What the Muezzin Told, What the Blacksmith Told, What the Jeweler Told, What the Blind Man Told) in the book "Ahmet Ümit - Fairy Tales Inside a Fairy Tale" published by Doğan Egmont Publications. The adaptation of the stories was made according to the grammar topics and reading skills at the B1 level in the New Hittite Turkish Teaching Set for Foreigners, which was prepared according to the European Language Framework. In the study, first, grammatical structures, words, and metaphorical expressions that were not suitable for the B1 level were identified in order to ensure the suitability of Ahmet Ümit's work for this level, and then they were arranged to be suitable for this level. Additionally, a Turkish-Turkish dictionary was added to the end of the fairy tale. In the dictionary, grammatical structures appropriate for the definitions of words that are above the B1 level were attempted to be used, and some words were presented with visuals. The aim of this study was to create a helpful resource for B1 level Turkish language learners' reading skills and to introduce an important work of Ahmet Ümit to the field of Turkish language teaching for foreigners.
