Die Untersuchung der beim Deutschlernen angewandten Sprachlernstrategien der StudentInnen in der Abteilung Lehramt für Deutsch

The purpose of this study to determine the second foreign language learning strategies of teacher candidates who were attending German Language Teaching Department in Education Faculty and how they benefit from their first foreign language English?s basic principles.This study was carried on totally 199 students, at Ziya Gökalp Education Faculty, German Language Teaching Department of Dicle University. The data of this survey were collected through ?The Inventory of Foreign Language Learning Strategies? which includes 22 items and which was utilized from O?Malley?s and Chamot?s learning strategy classification and developed by the researcher. In this, data coming from the research was achieved via the SPSS 16.00 package computer program.The study comprises of three parts. In the first part of this study, after mentioning the various Learning Theories which have got a great effect on the language learning strategies, the definitions of foreign language learning strategies and classifications are concentrated on. After clarifying the language learning strategies which are used after English in the second foreign language learning phase, some related researches, both in our country and in abroad, have been presented.In the second part, there have been descriptive statistics and interpretations that students use in second foreign language learning phase and which has been obtained from the ?The Inventory of Foreign Language Learning Strategies? with three dimensions and examine the relationship between the variables such as the students? gender, class, the types of high schools from which they graduated.In the third part, there have been the conclusion of the research and the suggestions which are related to the finding of the research and the interpretations.The results of the study indicate that the students whose first foreign language is English, utilize from the first language learning strategies as they are learning ?Second Foreign Language German?. Within language learning strategies context, the results showed no significant difference between gender groups in terms of strategy use. Both gender groups mostly prefer to use social-affective strategies. According to the high schools, it is found that Anatolia High Schools and Foreign Language Orientated High Schools graduates use social-affective strategies at the highest level. Cognitive and metacognitive strategies are used at medium level by all of the high schools graduates. According to the classes, it is observed that the students at Prep. Classes use just only social-affective strategies at the highest level. The first and second grade students use all learning strategies at the highest level.
