Assesment of scool phobia by the mother?s viewpoint

The purpose of this research is to study qualitatively the assesments of the mothers, whose children suffers from school phobia.School phobia is a term that is seen in children attending primary school and that affect family, teacher and children suffering from this situation negatively.The sample of the research is made from the mothers of the children who attended primary schools in the borders of county of Osmangazi in the center of Bursa during the 2009-2010 Education year. The data needed for the research has been gathered by the technique of interview wich is a qualitative way of research. A semi-formulated interview form which was developed by the researcher by counsulting experts has been used to collect data.According the research results, it has been observed that mothers of the children suffering from school phobia by phrases such as socially introveited, weak, shy and personally reserved.When we interrogated the kids? traumatic experiences belonging to pre school period, it was observed that half of the mothers described a traumatic case, which derives from parental from a parental or environmental factors.When the kisd attitudes towards to school during pre-school period are interrogated half of the mothers indicated that to the kid?s attitudes were negative.When the physical and emotional reactions of a kid at the school time questionned, mothers stres that fear and ancşent reactions that are about inefficiency of self-expression şn the social environment and psychosomatic complaints of kids. Among these, fear and anxiety are most inputated ones.When asked the mothers, the reasons of why their kids are not coming to school, they range the reasons as: mother based, kids based, school environmental and other related factors. Among these, the kid-based reasons are the most imputated ones.When mothers are askes what kind of difficulties they have experinenced trough this period, they gave answers that can be categorized in different areas. These are psychosomatic reactions, difficulties caused by the social, environmental and psychological complaints.When families? approaches to the kids who experience school phobia questioned, it is understood that all families have supportive attitudes.When their support source related to their children?s school phobia questionned, mothers tell that they are supported by other members of the family, relatives and others around. It is the support sourches about the school that is referred among others.
