Comparison of information sources in social network analysis in input use of sesame growers in Manavgat, Antalya

The subject of the study is the comparison of the information sources in the input usage of sesame growers with social network analysis in Manavgat district of Antalya province. Sesame is widely used in bakery products by making spices and confectionery. Due to the short growing time of sesame plants, it is also included in the second crop agriculture and it can enter the planting vigil with every culture plant. Despite all these characteristics, sesame production has shown a serious decline in recent years. Our sesame production, which exceeded 45,000 tons in 1998, decreased to 18,410 tons by 2017. sesame consumption in Turkey is around 150,000 tons. It is seen that production does not even cover half of consumption. According to TURKSTAT 2016 data, Antalya has 47,574 decares of cultivation area in sesame production; Turkey has 18.1% of the sesame fields and Antalya is the second most produced sesame Province. In 16.9'% of Manavgat in Antalya Turkey meets the sesame production by 65.2% while production of Antalya. In Turkey alone Manavgat sesame production meets 11.0'%. The sources of information for sesame producers in the use of inputs were determined, and the structure of the communication network used by the producers in accessing information and how this network operates was examined. Accordingly, the interactions between the central actors and other actors in that network and the information sharing network were determined. In the use of input, it should be supported activity of central actors in communication networks according to the results of social network analysis for efficiency and lower costs.
