Researching by the point of view gender of attitudes and behaviors of farmers towards the nature protection in Serik district of Antalya

With the rapid increase in the world population, it is inevitable to increase agricultural productivity in order to meet the food needs of future generations. However, when methods that effectively combat diseases, pests or weeds are applied unconsciously in order to increase product quality and prevent yields loss in agricultural production, they can harm all living things, especially humans and most importantly nature. The main purpose of this study is to examine the attitudes and behaviors of farmers towards the enviyonment in the agricultural production process and to evaluate then in focus of gender roles. İn this context, a total of 120 farmers, including 60 woman an men, who produced undercover in Serik district of Antalya province, were surveyed face to face. When the obtained data is evaluated; it can be understood that woman's labor has a great place in agricultural production as in many areas. But woman farmers receive information about agricultural production indirectly through men. 96.7 % of the farmers think that Turkey is an agricultural country in terms of natural resource and 85 % of them think that the natural environment is a development toll. İn addition, 42.5 % of the farmers stated that over-spraying and 33% of them stated that excessive fertilization would cause a high level of damage to the environment. In short, it was determined that farmers are willing to main the environment and natural balance, but do mot have enough knowledge and awareness about what to do or not do do. There was no difference between the attitudes and behaviors of male and female farmers participating in the survey towards the protection of nature.
