Analysis of the tendency of producers to stay in agriculture and affecting factors in Antalya province

The behaviour of producers in the agricultural sector is influenced by a wide variety of factors, including economic, social, cultural, personal, political and geographical. In this study, the tendency of cattle, small cattle breeders and greenhouse producers to stay in agriculture were examined in the example of Antalya province. The main purpose of the study was to determine the tendency of producers to stay in agriculture in other words their satisfaction status and to investigate the economic, social, cultural, personal, geographical and rural infrastructure, agricultural policy and organizational factors that affect this tendency, on greenhouse, cattle and small cattle breeding activities in Antalya province. Stratified Sampling Method was preferred in the determination of the producers who were surveyed and as a result of the calculations, 68 breeders in the field of cattle breeding, 117 breeders in the field of small cattle and 100 producers in greenhouse production were interviewed face to face. In the study, satisfaction analysis was used to determine the level of satisfaction of producers. As a result of the study, the lowest level of satisfaction of producers emerged as economic factors and agricultural policy and organizational factors. Among the three sectors examined within the framework of the analyses carried out, the highest satisfaction was observed in greenhouse production with a value of 29.3, while the lowest satisfaction with a value of 26.53 occurred in the small cattle production. As per factors, the highest levels of satisfaction were concentrated in geographical, environmental and rural infrastructure factors. Accordingly, it is important to increase the level of economic satisfaction in order to increase the tendency of producers to stay in agriculture. On the other hand, structuring the agricultural supports applied according to the needs of the producers and strengthening the producer organization will positively affect the tendency of the producers to stay in agriculture.
