Determination of Aşağihacibekir-Bala (Ankara) gypsum potential by multi-electrode resistivity method

In this study, the potential and quality of the gypsum mine field located app-roximately 10 km north-west of Aşağıhacıbekir district of Bala district in Ankara province was investigated. Multi-Electrode Resistivity Method (2B ERT) and Induction Polarization Method (2B IP) were applied to determine the possible presence of gypsum in the study area economically. In addition, XRD, SEM / EDS and ICP-MS analyzes were performed to determine the quality of gypsum and its components were determined. The evaluation of the geophysical data obtained from the study area was made by considering the geology of the region. In the acquisition of resistivity data, In 10 geophysical profiles, 2D (two-dimensional) geo-electrical sections were obtained by using the "Dipole-Gradient" measu-rement technique. A total of 42 electrodes were used for each section and the distance between the electrodes was arranged as 10 meters. The total length of each profile is 420 meters. When the obtained 2D geo-electric profiles were evaluated, it was determined that the resistivity values between 700 and 1700 Ω-m were found to correspond to the places with potential gypsum. 2B ERT and 2B IP sections were compared and it was seen that these sections were in agree with each other. As a result of the evaluation of the geophysi-cal data, 12 gypsum samples were taken from predetermined points considering the resisti-vity values. The main component of the peak values in XRD analyzes applied to these samples was gypsum and the weight percentages of the elements in the samples were de-termined from the SEM-EDS analysis results. In addition, 25.25% Strontium element was detected in one of the samples. The ratios of trace elements in gypsum samples were deter-mined by ICP-MS analysis. As a result of this research, the locations of potential gypsum underground in the study area were determined. It was determined that the main component of the samples was gypsum.
