Relationship of Asprosine with Glucose Metabolism Diabetes Parameters and Anti Diabetic Agents in Experimental Diabetes Model

Abstract (EN)

Aim: To examine the effects of the changes in plasma asprosine levels on glucose metabolism and diabetes parameters during the experimental diabetes process and to compare the therapeutic effects of curcumin and some antidiabetic agents with each other. Materials and Methods: Thirty-five adult male Wistar albino rats were divided into 5 equal groups: 1) Healthy control, 2) Diabetic control, 3) Diabetes + metformin, 4) Diabetes + gliclazide and 5) Diabetes + curcumin group. A single dose of 55 mg / kg streptozotocin was injected into the peritoneal cavity of rats to induce diabetes. At the end of the 8-week experimental period, body weights, fasting blood glucose and insulin levels, liver enzymes related to glucose metabolism, parameters related to lipid metabolism and plasma asprosin levels were measured. Results: Plasma asprosine level was significantly higher in the diabetic control group than in all groups (p <0.001). The increase in plasma asprosine level due to diabetes could be prevented significantly with curcumin treatment (P <0.001). Although the HOMA-IR level was significantly higher (p <0.001) in diabetic rats treated with curcumin compared to the healthy control group, the insulin level was low (p <0.001). Curcumin treatment significantly improved fasting blood glucose level compared to the diabetic control group (p <0.001). Liver HK, G6PD and PK activities were increased in diabetic rats given curcumin compared to the diabetic control group, whereas G6P activity was decreased (P <0.001, respectively). However, curcumin treatment significantly decreased plasma TK, TG and LDL levels in diabetic rats (p <0.001, p = 0.011, p <0.001, respectively), while significantly increasing HDL levels (p = 0.034). Conclusion: Increase in plasma asprosin levels has been found to be associated with diabetes pathogenesis. Curcumin treatment in diabetic rats significantly improved plasma asprosin levels, while positively affecting liver enzymes related to serum glucose metabolism, serum lipid and glucose levels. As a result; The change in plasma asprosine level may be a physiological marker in evaluating the diabetes process. In addition, curcumin can be considered as an alternative antidiabtic option in the treatment of diabetes.
