Abstract (EN)

Diabetic nephropathy results from type 2 diabetes Mellitus complications. It is less dependent on extrarenal factors than creatinine in diagnosing mild renal failure in otherwise healthy people. The presence of Cystatin C (Cys C) in tubular disease patients' urine suggests that it might be employed as a marker for renal tubular damage. A case-control study was done at Kirkuk General Hospital. 90 people with T2DM for at least 8 years were studied, along with 30 healthy people. Gender, age, BMI, and DM duration were collected at baseline. Blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, cystatin C, serum and urine creatinine, and albumin. BMI, FBG, HbA1c, SCr, GFR, MA, and Cys C serum levels were statistically significant differences between the study groups (p=0.001). The groups were compared with no statistically significant variations in age. There was a statistically significant positive connection between Cys C and SCr and a negative correlation between Cys C and T2DM with nephropathy. A positive correlation between Cys C and urine microalbuminuria was also observed. Cys C is a sensitive and reliable diagnostic marker for detecting changes in renal function. Increased levels of Cys C in the blood of persons with T2DM are a predictor of the expansion of kidney disease. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Nephropathy, Cystatin C, Microalbuminuria
