Patriarchy and marriage: Mut'ah example

In this study, Mut'a (temporary marriage) is examined in the context of the concepts of family and marriage, which are the basis of society. The types of marriage, patriarchy, are discussed in detail. The social effects of Mut'a, which is a temporary marriage, and the perspective of Islam on this marriage are researched and theoretical evaluations are included. In the research, the literature-based document analysis method was used. Published books, articles and research results were evaluated and a conclusion was tried to be drawn. At the end of the research, it has been determined that women come to the fore with the role of motherhood, which is the most important role in the family, in a male-dominated order, where they are under the influence of patriarchal tradition in the historical process, but they are assigned a social role due to their sexual identity. When we look at the patriarchal structure in terms of marriage, the role of the woman serving the man and the role of the mother of the man's children lead the way, rather than the fact that marriage is a combination of destiny and life sharing. In this respect, it can be thought that Mut'a marriage serves a patriarchal structure. It can be considered as a mechanism established for male sexual satisfaction. The fact that there are articles about sexuality in the contracts, which are among the conditions of mut'a, supports this. As a result, it can be said that Mut'a is a reflection of the marriage order in the patriarchal society. Because patriarchal societies support sexist discrimination. Mut'a is a structure based on male dominance away from love because of its temporary nature, the dominance being in the man's, and the woman giving the money and offering the male body. They are the structures that support patriarchy in the social structures where this system is applied. These social and political organizations form around biological and gender. It can be said that the main problem is the duties imposed on women due to the perception of gender.
