Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine and identify the crisis situations that middle school administrators in advantaged and disadvantaged regions frequently encounter, the methods they use to deal with these crisis situations, the difficulties they experience in dealing with these crisis situations, and the knowledge and skills they need. The study group was defined according to the results of the Socio-Economic Development Ranking Survey of Districts (SEGE-2022) prepared by the General Directorate of Development Agencies. In addition to determining the number of schools, Gündüz's (2011) seven-question interview form entitled "Interview Form with School Administrator on Social and Economic Characteristics of Students and Parents" was used as a source, taking into account the intense migration in the region and the findings in the relevant literature that migration can lead to crisis situations in schools. Considering the results of the SEGE survey (2022) and the preliminary interview form, the advantaged and disadvantaged middle school administrators from each district with different characteristics were selected by the maximum variation sampling method from purposeful sampling methods and a study group of 34 school administrators was formed. In addition, considering the advantaged and disadvantaged status of these schools, 16 disadvantaged and 17 advantaged schools were selected. In this study, a semi-structured interview form was developed in accordance with the qualitative research design, taking into account the relevant literature and research questions, and then finalised by conducting a pilot study. All data were collected using the interview technique and the data were divided into main themes, sub-themes, main categories, categories and sub-categories using content analysis. As a result of the analysis, the findings belonging to six main themes such as environmental causes, organisational causes, ways of coping with crisis, difficulties encountered in coping with crisis, knowledge and skills needed in coping with crisis, and expectations from senior management in dealing with crisis situations were discussed in the framework of similarities and differences on behalf of middle schools in advantaged and disadvantaged regions.
