Abstract (EN)

This study's aim to examine thematically how Honoré de Balzac deals with money subject in some novels of the Human Comedy being a huge body of writings. Our research is qualitative. Before discussing money subjects, we have had opportunity to get closely acquainted with our author, Balzac by his autobiography. With different works from each other written by Balzac under the name of Human Comedy, presented to world literature, we have been convinced to do a scientific realistic research while treating "money theme" thanks to Balzac; this is because it would be background study for also readers. We have dealth with some novels having intercorrelated fictitious characters and so we could follow their finals. These studies are on Le Père Goriot, Eugénie Grandet, César Birotteau, Illusions perdues and Splendeurs et Misères des courtisanes. We have planned for a thesis wihout distrupting the integrity of topic both with personal statements and footnotes while we convey the Balzac's subjects reflecting his own melancholy, economic problem and crisis. When we study on Balzac's, we have realized the spectacular power of his novels on readers who wonder about French society in the 19st century because we have hypothesized that Balzac has taken a task like a social mirror reflecting his own period's tendancies, attitude and behaviour, judicial and money matters. In his chronic and sociologic work, on the point of the reader's common question "Who is this author?" we have tried to ix respond it and we have given place to Balzac's life greatly in our thesis; because we are aware that this author's life is an issue of concern as much as his novels. The themes characterised as province and Paris, money, greed and duplicity chosen as the main theme in most of novels, it is possible that they are the topics belonged to all times; not a century, not a time; therefore we have approached it in this way. As a consequence, with the striking characters as himself, Balzac has been not only the masterpiece of realist novel in the 19th. century but also made readers felt that he performed the autobiographic works knowingly or unknowingly. Keywords: Balzac, Money, The Human Comedy, Greed, Avarice
