Examination of the situations of marginalization and isolation of physical education teachers and determination of their causes

The aim of this research is to examine the othering and isolation situations of physical education teachers and to determine the reasons. Exploratory sequential design, one of the mixed method researches, was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 87 physical education teachers in the quantitative research section and 11 physical education teachers selected from these 87 people in the qualitative research section. The data of the research were collected in two different ways as quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data were collected through "Physical Education-Othering and Isolation Scale" and qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews. SPSS program was used in the analysis of quantitative data in the research. T-test and ANOVA tests were used as analysis techniques. In the analysis of qualitative data, descriptive analysis technique was used. Considering the quantitative findings, it can be said that the physical education teachers participating in the research have a low level of marginalization and isolation. In addition, the othering and isolation levels of physical education teachers; It was concluded that there was no difference according to gender, marital status, years of professional experience, place of duty, age, education level and whether they held administrative duties. According to the results of the interviews with the teachers whose marginalization and isolation levels were high; as the reasons for teachers' marginalization; It was concluded that the lesson was not given importance and indicated cultural reasons. It was found that the teachers stated the reasons for isolation, such as group behavior, physical isolation, not giving importance to physical education lessons and not supporting extracurricular activities.
