Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to determine the levels of pain and fear avoidance in patients who have undergone hernic surgery in neurosurgical clinics The research was carried out between November 2016 and May 2017 and the necessary institutional permissions were obtained and Gaziantep Şehitkâmil Public Hospital and Gaziantep Dr. Ersin Arslan Training and Research Hospital Brain Surgery Clinics, a descriptive study. Research has been conducted with 92 voluntary patients hospitalized in the Neurosurgical Clinics of the hospitals. "Socio-demographic data form", "Visual Benchmarking Scale" and "Fear Avoidance Attitudes Questionnaire" were used in the data collection. Statistical analysis of the data was made in the statistical software program SPSS.21.In the analysis of the data, number percentage, t test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U were used to compare dependent independent variables. It is noticed that the levels of fear avoidance and pain were higher in female patients than in males (p <0.01).It was found that The fearavoidance behaviors of the patients working in physical activity were higher, occupational work-related fear avoidance levels of patients who have been treated for 16 years or more were found to be higher than those of other groups for physical activity-related fear avoidance for 11-15 years of patients with low back pain (p<0.05). Occupational workrelated fear avoidance levels of trauma patients were found to be higher than physical activity-related fear avoidance levels of trauma survivors. The fear avoidance scale was found to have a higher total score average in trauma patients and a higher rate of pain in trauma survivors. According to the relationship between pain and fear avoidance behaviors, pain was related to fear avoidance, which was result of mostly physical activity. It was determined that the relationship between pain and fear avoidance total and subdimensions was not significant. As a result, in patients with spinal cord surgery, with the presence of functional deficits, the idea that the development of all patients' lifes may be adversely affected and the quality of life will reduce can occur. Patients may behave in a limited manner with physical fear of increasing pain and thus avoiding activity and sometimes the patients can refrain from movement due to their fear of experiencing pain. Key words: lomber disc hernia, spinal hernıc surgery, fear avoidance, post-surgical pain.
