A survey on developing speaking skill by using computer-assisted English teaching

This research is the example of Diyarbakır which has done for the aim of proving the effect of computer-assisted language learning on foreign language teaching at secondary and primary schools. This research also aims to explain the nine subtitles under this title.1.Must computer be used at teaching language?2.Must computer be used at teaching the subjects or for the aim of repetation?3.Does computer have influence on improving speaking skill?4.What are the effects of computer assisted language teaching on the students? success.The research has been done in two classes of a primary school in Diyarbakır during the first semester of 2006-2007 academic year. The research has been performed for all told 51 students, 22 students from class 7/A and 29 students from class 7/B.The computer-softwares and students? books have been used as resource for the application of the research. The students have been seperated into two groups, control group and experimental group. While the control group was being taught by using the traditional teaching methods, the other group was being taught by using the computer-assisted teaching method. This application has carried out in each class with the same number of students.In the beginning of the application a pretest including 10 questions and an oral test measuring the speaking skill have been carried out for 51 students forming control and experimental groups. Then the control group has performed their lessons by using computer-assisted learning environment and the experimental group has performed their lessons by using the traditional learning environment. After this application, the questions of the pretest which had been carried out at the beginning of the application were carried out as a retest. It has been got factual data from 51 students. It has been collected English teachers? thoughts by the way of interviewing. The survey about the research has been done.The data which had been collected by carrying out the pretest and the retest has been entered into a program by the researcher. The data which had been got by interviewing has been collected by using tape recording. The data which had been collected has been analysed and the analysed data has been interpreted under the main title and the subtitles.It has been concluded to these results after analysing the collected data:1.Improving speaking skill in foreign language by using computer-assisted has been found more successful than the speaking activities with the traditional methods.2.There is a meaningful difference between computer-assisted foreign language teaching and traditional teaching methods in point of students? success and continuance. The students are more successful by using computer-assisted foreign language teaching method.3.To raise the quality of education, the computer techonology must be used in teaching and language laboratories must be set in schools for the foreign language lessons.
