The relationship between attachment styles and narcissism on a group of university students: Mediating role of rejection sensitivity

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between attachment styles and narcissism on a group of university students and to examine the mediating role of rejection sensitivity in this relationship. The study data were sampled in three different universities in İstanbul with 452 student participants. The participants completed research tools including, Personal Information Form, Relationship Scale Questionnare, Narcissistic Personality Inventory, Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale and Rejection Sensitivity Measure. The data obtained in the research are analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 21.0 program. Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis Test are used for designate the differences of groups. Spearman rho Correlation Analyze is used for designate the relationships between variables of study. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between attachment styles and narcissistic personality chracteristics. For this conclusion, mediating role of rejection sensitivity couldn't been analizied in this relationship. But the results showed that there was a positive significant relationship between rejection sensitivity and vulnerable narcissism. And also there was a positive significant relationship between rejection sensitivity and self-sufficiency dimension of grandiose narcissism. Finally, the results discussed according to previous literature. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for future studies were stated.
