Abstract (EN)
Objective: It is known that mental health problems have increased globally in recent years, especially for young people, and it is an important agenda for various reasons such as the development of technology and the change in living conditions. Medical school students are at higher risk for health problems such as depression, anxiety and stress because they are exposed to a greater load. For this reason, it was aimed to determine the depression, anxiety and stress levels of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students studying in a medical faculty and to evaluate their relationship with smartphone addiction, time management and other factors. Materials and Methods: This research is a cross-sectional study conducted between November and December 2022. The population of the research is 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students studying at a university's medical faculty. In the study, the sample size was calculated as 292 from 1200 students studying in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades of the medical faculty, and it was aimed to reach 450 students, 150 students from each class. At the end of the study, 452 people were included. Data collection form; The questionnaire developed by the researchers consists of the smartphone addiction scale, the time management scale and the depression anxiety stress scale. The data collection form was filled by the students under observation. The data were analyzed with the IBM SPSS Statistical Package Program and ANOVA test, Independent groups t-test, Post hoc tukey test, Regression analysis, Pearson correlation test were used in the analysis process. Results: Of the students, 61.3% had depression symptoms, 64.8% had anxiety symptoms. and 46.7% had stress symptoms. In bivariate analyses; gender with anxiety and stress, parental relationship with depression and anxiety, family economic status with depression, personal monthly income with depression and stress, choosing medical school willingly with depression and stress, family ties with depression and stress, receiving psychological support with anxiety and stress, success in class, relationship with friends, physical activity status, smoking habit, illness, regular drug use, psychiatric diagnosis in first degree relative, daily smartphone use, daily smartphone checking frequency, smartphone use A statistically significant relationships were found between the purpose of the study, the status of self-assessment as a smartphone addict, smartphone addiction, time management, and depression, anxiety and stress. Conclusion: In this study, depression, anxiety and stress levels were found to be high in medical faculty students. When the effective factors are examined, the importance of providing educational psychological support and social support to students has emerged.
