Neck bournemouth questionnaire: turkish version, validity and reliability study

Özel Aslıyüce Y. Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire in Patients with Neck Pain: Turkish Version, Validity and Reliability Study. Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences. The aim of this study was to determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire. A total of 125 patients with chronic neck pain, 102 female and 23 male, were included in this study. Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire, Neck Pain and Disability Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory were filled on the first day of study. Pain intensity of the patients was evaluated with Visual Analog Scale (VAS) during rest, activity and night pain. Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire was filled for the second time by 40 individuals who participated in the study 1-3 days after the survey and scales were filled for the first time. As a result, it was seen that the Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire had two factors as Factor 1 "pain and function", Factor 2 "anxiety and depression". It was found that Neck Pain and Disability Scale was very good (r= 0,.731, p=0,.00), Neck Disability Index was good (r=0,.630, p=0,.00), Beck Depression Inventory (r=0,.448, p=0,.00) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (r=0,.462, p=0,.00) were moderate, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia was low to moderately (r=0,.347, p=0,.00) correlated with Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire. The internal consistency of Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire was found to be high for both (Cronbach's alpha = 0,.865), Factor 1 (Cronbach's alpha = 0,.977) and Factor 2 (Cronbach's alpha = 0,.887). The test-retest reliability of the questionnaire was found to be high on both items and total points (ICC = 0,.963). These results show that the Turkish version of the Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire is a valid and reliable questionnaire for patients with chronic neck pain. The Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire was considered to be an advantage in clinical and academic studies with its multidimensions and the fact that all questions are specific to neck pain of individuals. Since the Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire assesses patients in physical, mental, emotional and social terms, it has been concluded that individuals with chronic neck pain can also assess their quality of life. However, in order to achieve a definite conclusion in this regard, it was concluded that further studies, including a quality of life questionnaire, would be useful.
